Football Finally Makes Sense She Says...

Yes, I'm a blonde who embraces blonde jokes, haha (and when it comes to my understanding of football, this could actually be me)!...

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench. After the game, he asked her how she liked the
experience.

"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was: “Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!' ..........I'm like...Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!!!!"

The New Long Beach Transit Passes Are Great!

As some of my readers may know, I am a huge fan of public transportation, and have been very happy with the transit system here in Long Beach. I typically get a monthly bus pass, and my car now only comes out on special occasions that require leaving the city. Everything else is within bus distance. The only drawback, however, was that the monthly passes were only available until the 10th of the month, and were only good until the end of the month. So, with my variable schedule, sometimes I missed getting one, and ended up having to find change for my trips (more like dollars). Also, if I ended up getting one later in the month, that was less days it was good for.

A few months back, however, Long Beach made some great improvements for our transportation budgets! The new Long Beach bus passes are now available any time, and they are not dated. So, when you buy one, you activate it when you first use it by swiping the magnetic stripe (also a new feature), and it is then stamped with an expiration date 30 days later. They also now have 5-day passes available, perfect if you you have out-of-town visitors and don't want to buy them a full month's pass, or if your public transportation needs are variable. Sweet! Thanks Long Beach Transit!

An Attitude Of Gratitude - Results Of the Daily Gratitude Poll

Attitudes of Gratitude: How to Give and Receive Joy Everyday of Your Life

I have started a daily gratitude poll encouraging my Facebook and Twitter contacts to share one thing that they are grateful for each day. I will start posting the results on this blog periodically, in order to help promote an attitude of gratitude and a shift of consciousness from that of lack to that of abundance. I find that just focusing on one thing I am grateful for each day (and hopefully several) changes the whole mood of my day for the better, and I love to read what other people share, as it compounds the good feelings and seems to put things into proper perspective each day. I hope you feel the same effect as you read these results each week and that you will be inspired to do the same! So, the results of this past week's gratitude poll are:
  • Sunshine
  • Glucosamine that is helping someone's dog move easier
  • Someone's beautiful babies
  • Having everything within walking, biking, or bus distance from home
  • Spanx
  • Making it to a meeting despite sleeping through an alarm
  • Kids with great imaginations!
  • Electricity, because someone didn't have it one day last week What Is Electricity? (Rookie Read-About Science)
  • Someone's daughter
  • Family and friends and the ability to help others
Check back soon to get your next gratitude fix, or if you'd like to participate, connect with me on Facebook or Twitter and join in on the poll! If you would like to have your name mentioned in the results, please let me know, otherwise, all results will be reported anonymously. And thanks to our contributors!

Two Glasses Of Wine

Some food (and drink) for thought...

Two Glasses Of Wine

A professor stood before his philosophy class with some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large, empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two glasses of wine from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. "Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things: your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions. Things that if everything else was lost and only these remained, your life would still be full."

"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else, the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "There is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes in life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you."

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. Go for one more run down the ski slope. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired as to what the wine represented. The professor smiled, "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of glasses of wine with a friend."
